Medical and Healthcare: Research Proposal (Smoking Cessation)

Methodology

Extraneous Variables

The extraneous variables within the currently proposed quasi-experimental research study are age, sex, weight, mental health, or previous health conditions. The plan for controlling them would be selecting the sample participants within a certain age bracket, for example, 40-50 years old. A normal balanced weight for the mentioned age group is 176.4 pounds since the primary concern for quitting smoking is the basic reason people take care of their health (Iannelli, 2021). For sex, both males and females would be tried to be included in the research so that the same number of both genders are included. Moreover, even if it does not become possible, the ratio would still be adjusted so that a greater difference between male and female gender is not present. For instance, six males and four females could be accepted rather than nine males and one female only. Mental health, such as depression or stress,...

Two groups would be involved: a controlled group that does not receive the BCT treatment, while the other would be the treatment group in which adult smokers who received BCT but did not quit smoking in the past six months. The researcher has to test whether the outcome difference for one group is different from the other group.

The plan for testing reliability would include stability, equivalence, and...

…replication or repetition of the same action (Carey et al., 2018). The redirection of the causal processes in the said intervention is done by regulating certain behavior, which is smoking in this research. The mitigation of the augmenting factors in the participants would be the main objective obtained through BCT intervention so that barriers and facilitators are carefully inspected for removing the unwanted behavior.

Data Collection Procedures

As mentioned previously, there would be no active manipulation as the study is different from a true experiment. The statistical models for determining the relation of the control group and the other group would be established. In real-world settings, where the changes in factors of the research cannot be done systematically or ethically, it is best to study the phenomenon to assess the actual results, close…
